Our Villages
Walberton, Binsted and Fontwell
Walberton, Binsted and Fontwell are the three thriving and diverse villages in the district of Arun that make up the area covered by Walberton Parish Council. From the rural serenity of Binsted to the rich archaeological history of Fontwell and the typical Sussex historical architecture of Walberton’s Conservation areas our Parish is a welcoming and interesting place for both visitors and residents. Some parts of the Parish are mentioned in British History on line as dating back to 1596.
An Archaeological Survey was recently undertaken in Tuppers Field and the findings can be seen here.
We are situated in a great location, between the stunning South Downs National Park to the north (some of which is in our Parish), the Cathedral towns of Chichester to the west, Arundel to the east and the beautiful coast to the south including the bustling tourist towns of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis.
Our villages offer the choice of 2 pubs, a variety of shops, beautiful countryside, outdoor and indoor sports and activity clubs, playing field and cricket practice nets, 2 children’s play areas, a primary school, a pre-school and play centre and is the home to many businesses, some small office based, others related to home improvements and many involving the horticultural industry.
The Parish covers an area of 1,044.19 ha with a population of 2,370 (2022 estimate) in 1308 dwellings and currently 1883 registered electors. The Council Tax Precept for 2023/24 is £72525 equal to £60.34 per annum for a Band D property.
We are also known for hosting some great social events and raising money for various local charities and amenities.
