No to Grey
Strategy Statement
The aim of the Council is to prevent any detrimental impacts on the Parish and surrounding areas by the current proposed A27 bypass preferred route.
The Council will work towards this by:
- continuing to monitor the progression of National Highways’ work towards the application for a Development Consent Order (DCO)
- challenging the process where appropriate and highlighting deficiencies on design, content, and process
- preparing for a possible challenge to the DCO as led by robust and authoritative legal advice.
This will be achieved by engaging:
- with our community to ensure their views are represented and heard throughout the DCO process
- with key stakeholders during the pre-application process to ensure it meets the minimum standards for lawful consultation
- targeted financial resources that add value to the strategy
- robust legal and professional advice where appropriate
- in community awareness and information campaigns to ensure our community can make informed decision and comments throughout the DCO process
- with Highways England to ensure meaningful and appropriate mitigation that is commensurate with the significance of our Parish’s setting and environment is implemented should the bypass proceed despite our best endeavours.
A27 Grey Route Further Consultation
An additional public consultation will be undertaken by National Highways, likely some time this summer. It may be restricted to a few items; no announcement has yet been made as to the final scope of the consultation. Watch this space...

We have finally received a response from National Highways concerning sets of questions asked both by the Parish Council and residents.
One resident has forwarded a set of questions that they asked National Highways at three different exhibitions. The differences in response are concerning - we are extremely disappointed that accurate, reliable information is being presented to us as consultees. If you do not get a response or receive conflicting replies, please let us know!
Thank you to all who came to the workshop on Saturday 12th. We have submitted your questions to NH!

This is not our last chance - there will be more opportunities to comment when the Development Consent Order goes in.

Further information
All consultation documentation can be read online at National Highways' A27 website.
We are deeply concerned with the impact this scheme will have on our cultural heritage.
We have particpated in the Elected Representatives' Forum to discuss the A27. National Highways has supplied redacted minutes of the meetings which can be read here. Unfortunately, we are not permitted to share full transcripts of the meetings and National Highways declined to permit the meetings to be viewed by the general public.
